Strong Bones Without the Calcium Pills
Do you think that popping a calcium supplement will make your bones stronger?
Despite what you hear on TV, calcium supplements have little to do with the strength of your bones.
That’s what I tell my patients … and it always surprises them.
One of the most well-conducted studies in science, the Harvard Nurses Study, showed there was absolutely no protection from factures with any dose of calcium intake. Instead, the reverse was true… nurses who ingested higher amounts of calcium had an increased risk of bone fracture…
The REAL Cause of Heart Attacks and Strokes
A recent story in The New York Times revealed the “newly discovered” importance of C-reactive protein (CRP).
Apparently, a drug company-sponsored study showed that people who had high CRP levels had fewer heart attacks and strokes when taking statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs).
Suddenly, the whole medical community is buzzing about the importance of CRP.
Of course, I’ve been talking about the importance of CRP as an indicator of heart attacks and strokes for years now. But now that mainstream medicine can attach a drug to it, suddenly it is BIG news.
More than One Kind of Exercise…
I read a piece in New York Magazine that had me shaking my head.
In a nut shell the author, Gary Taubes, claims that exercise doesn’t work. Fat people stay fat, and lean people stay lean. All exercise does is burn a few calories, then boost your appetite and make you want to eat more. But there’s a big problem with his analysis.
It was about how after all these years experts still can’t figure out how you’re supposed to get in shape. Rates of obesity and diabetes have skyrocketed, and people still can’t keep the weight off.
